I think Instagram is considerably a lot more creepier than Facebook.
Firstly, simply because it is exclusively image based, which is what creeps always look for point blank whenever they're engaging in the acts of creepiness. At least on Facebook or Twitter you're not obliged to post any picture to exist effectively and meaningfully.
Secondly, if your account is not protected, any hashtags stamped on your pictures is now free for search worldwide. Those simple harmless ones like '#ootd' or '#enjoying' or '#pretty' or '#beautiful' has a fine line between what you are actually trying to illustrate (the oceanic landscape of Pulau Perhentian is very pretty, obviously) and what the creep is actually looking at (the view of your face is prettier than all seas combined) , more often than not that line is abused nonchalantly.
Thirdly, and this is a bit of personal, but everytime I see the 'explore' section on Instagram I feel a bit uneasy. How 'random' is it? What are the chances of your or my pictures to be included in that particular moment of 'explore'? I see a pattern of similarities in the pictures that are plucked out to be put in the 'explore' section, but most are baseless assumptions which I don't think will ever go public.
Fourthly, even if nobody cared about them creeps looking at their pictures, for normal people like you and I, how sure are we that those pictures of people that we see in Instagram is what they actually is? Even if the creeps are not the one doing the creepy stuff, isn't it creepy enough for you to know someone personally that looked completely unrelated to whatever portrayals of them you're seeing on Instagram? I mean, how far can one possibly go to look perfect that he/she is completely unrecognisable on Instagram with them filters and blurs and contrast and whatnot ? Instagram should at least put a maximum degree of filters imposable on any one picture so as to leave a respectable, justifiable and recognisable depiction of oneself. And to think that some would post photoshopped pictures of themselves on Instagram, WITH INSTAGRAM'S FILTERS!
That's creepy enough for me.
P/S : These are, obviously, my personal thoughts. Please don't take them personally and do read them in a light, comical and sartorial manner, alright? Cheers! :)
